Sarcastic children’s book mocks modern art. Is this what you think in museums?

British author Miriam Elia has written a children’s book called ‘We Go to the Gallery’ that satirizes the pretentiousness of modern art culture. The book mimics the style of the iconic Ladybird readers through simple declarative word syntax and retro illustrations. The book shows a family’s visit to a modern art museum and the children’s confusing encounter with contemporary art themes like death, sex, nothingness and self-hatred.

The book is dark and sarcastic. Elia raised the money for the book through Kickstarter and then self-published it. ‘We Go to the Gallery’ can be ordered here.
