Screen-printed playing cards made from NYC subway cards

Brooklyn based artist Norman Ibarra has created the ultimate ode to NYC with a postmodern set of playing cards, the Metrodeck. Made from pieces of used MetroCards, the pieces of NYC ephemera are screenprinted with an an enamel that can adhere to the plastic. For the face cards, his designs are inspired by New York’s landmarks.

The designer says that the project “attempts to visually capture the common thread between commuters, public transportation, and chance”, noting that the history of each card and the distress that it shows “make[s] each card unique with its own narrative potential.” The artist previously partnered with the Museum of Modern Art’s Destination: NYC Collection at the Design Store.
