The Brooklyn Museum has a new exhibit chronicling the evolution of the high heel from the 17th century right through today.
The exhibit, titled ‘Killer Heels,’ includes everything from 3D-printed high heels by Iris van Herpen to Marilyn Monroe’s stilettos to silk and leather heels from the late 1600s. Many of the shoes shown are quite extreme, leaving the viewer wondering how anyone would ever be able to walk in them (I’m guessing a lot of practice).

Designers including Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin, Vivienne Westwood, Prada and more have heels in the exhibit. Some other highlights include the “Blade Heel” made of plexiglass, leather, and stainless steel, as well as the “Bamboo Heel” made of bamboo, glue, and zip ties.
