Self-assembly is a platform that encourages people to make their own replicas of iconic furniture designs instead of buying massed produced versions – reclaiming their purchasing power and the term “DIY” in the process. One section of Self-assembly’s website is dedicated to a list of chairs visitors are able to build. Along with the detailed instructions for each chair, the resource provides a material list, an estimate for how long each chair will take to build, and an estimated cost for materials, some as inexpensive as $20.
