The British artist covers universal themes of what it means to be alive in the ‘human hive’ – a universal set of ingredients that people produce and consume. ‘Every day, we fill ourselves up and empty ourselves out, from royalty and heads of state to the lowest lives of the displaced or imprisoned. We all suffer the same appetites and desires, fears and misfortunes.’  The artwork is colourful, playful, and deliberately humorous, with a heavily layered visual language while also simplifying ideas into abstractions.

With this body of work on display, Shillingslaw describes the complexities and simplicities of the human nature, while  celebrating both differences and coexistence, and the way humans communicate to one another and to themselves.

The show runs until 1st December 2018 at Fitzroy Place – Mortimer Street Fitzrovia London W1T 3BF, United Kingdom.
