Last week, Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery in Luxembourg opened its door to their third solo show from Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) featuring a new series of paintings and sculpture. Entitled No Place Like Home, the exhibition continues the Brooklyn-based artist’s exploration of identity, a reflection of an upbringing that included influences from diverse cultures. The pieces on display draw from multiple references – interiors from lifestyle and home decor magazines, the exterior natural world from traditional Asian paintings masterpieces, and the humans taken from fashion publications like Vogue – leading to a mishmash of of imagery “portraying the diversity of where we live, pointing out the evidence of how one culture can no longer be explained by its lineage of tradition only.”
