Simple photography art creates irony though an intricate process

Vancouver-based artist Ed Spence makes striking photo-art using a detailed technique. What I like most about this work is the intricate process he goes through to create such a simple, or even dumbed-down, version of the original photograph. Spence creates irony through his process.

To make these tactile images Spence begins by photographing simple, crumbled pieces of reflective paper and prints out the image. He then cuts out a square in the middle of the photo, slices the removed piece into a bunch a tiny squares, then reassembles them on the original photograph, but in a new pattern. The result is a physically textured, pixelated effect with a very dada-pop art spirit.
