Skillfully arranged objects cast realistic shadow portraits

As if by magic, artist Kumi Yamashita skillfully manipulates shadows through minimalist sculptures that only unveil their true beauty through strategic lighting. Alphabet blocks on a wall are arranged to cast shadows in the form of a child’s face, or a woman’s silhouette. Simple pieces of colored paper squares are gently wrinkled to cast profiles of human faces onto the wall.

The New York-based artist’s jaw-dropping conceptual art is a prime example of what one can accomplish with refinement of craft.
