Miami artist Augusto Esquivel is known for his work that suspends buttons using filament to create a moving and airy form. On his website, Esquivel commented about using seemingly insignificant materials to create artwork: “A common object used to create a piece of art becomes transformed into something complicated and intriguing.”

In his newer work, he has been using the technique to create mosaic portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe. A previous series of musical instrument recreations was completed in 2011 and included an upright piano and a stand-up bass.
