Italian industrial design consultancy Whynot Design was commissioned by mattress startup Sonno to design their Signature Bed Frame. Targeted at first-time buyers in their home country of Malaysia, the brief was to create an affordable, 100% solid wood bed that would be easy to ship (i.e. flatpack) and easy to assemble (i.e. no tools). Here’s what they came up with:

In a sign of the times, the design features slots on either side of the bed to hold a smartphone:
Although Sonno somewhat cringily refers to their aesthetic as “Japandi” (i.e. Japanese and Scandinavian), the bed is easy enough on the eyes, and does indeed look easy to assemble:
