Joe Suzuki, as part of his ongoing series, imagines everyday accidents with happy results.
Freshly spilled paint and condiments form smiley faces of all kinds on the floor. Suzuki pays homage to artists like Warhol, Basquiat, and Keith Haring using their symbols in his own works. Each piece is made out of resin casting material and enamel and given the appearance of fresh liquid. Suzuki shares, “I consider my work to be artifacts of my own particular culture, which is not the generalized Japanese American culture, but that which formed as a direct result of being a first generation immigrant.”
