Our partners at DIA announced their 2022 winning entries. At the Award Ceremony, which kicked off at the Keqiao International Convention and Exhibition Center, DIA announced 29 works competing for the highest prize and bonus, including 2 Gold Award winners, 8 Silver Award winners and 10 Bronze Award winners from the Product Group; with 2 Future Talent Award and 7 Young Talents Award winners from the Concept Group.

The Gold Award for the Product Group was shared by two entries, both hailed from China.

IFBOT X3 Solar Panel Cleaning Robot, Suzhou ifbot Intelligent Technology

The IFBOT X3 Solar Panel Cleaning Robot created by Suzhou ifbot Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.—this intelligent cleaning robot was designed with crawler mobile “suckers” for cleaning consumer solar panels. The IFBOT redefines portable solar panel cleaning through its small size, light weight, and waterless cleaning methodology making it possible for every household that runs on solar to clean their own solar panels.

An additional Gold was awarded to Pangu Drug Molecule Model: Accelerating Drug Discovery with AI from Huawei Technologies, Co., Ltd. By combining cloud computing and AI, the whole R&D process for new drugs becomes visible and shareable. This platform was created to assist researchers in accelerating drug research and development by using AI technology. The design improves the readability of complex medical data by reducing both the knowledge and skills required to perform research. This new platform allows scientific research and exploration to be more efficient, visual, and traceable and support the process of getting new drugs to market.

Kries Cup from Coffee Kries made from reclaimed coffee grounds.

Two projects, both Bronze Awards, caught our attention as well designed truly sustainable products that replace plastic and remove waste from landfills.

As big coffee junkies we see the value of turning coffee grounds collected from coffee shops, restaurants, offices and hotels into reusable, sustainable, and recyclable Kreis Cups. The applicant, Coffee Kries, entry is a cup free from petroleum-based plastics which offers two solutions to the waste stream—no cups and lids in the waste stream and millions of tons of coffee grounds removed from landfills.

Paper Razor, from Kai a 98% plastic-free winner.

The second project, Paper Razor for the Japanese brand Kai, replaces plastic with tight-fluted corrugated cardboard rendering this razor to be 98% plastic-free. The format was inspired by the origami practice of folding paper and the functionality of milk cartons. This product was launched in response to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
