Strange animal sculptures exist between nightmares and dreams

Erika Sanada’s solo show titled ‘Odd Things: Daydreaming’ features small animal sculptures made with incredible sensitivity. At first they are adorable little guys, but the details reveal a dark and twisted side to their personalities. Things like the zombie eyes and weird stretching skin that connects to other life forms like siamese twins creates an uneasy sense.

Sanada began making the creatures as a way of coping with her anxiety. They represent dark parts of her psyche that she had to tame. The autobiographical work successfully exists somewhere between reality and dreams and will be on display at Antler Gallery through December 31st.
