The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) presents Watch and Chill 3.0: Streaming Suspense, the third season of the world’s first subscription-based streaming platform for contemporary art, where audiences from around the globe can freely access the media collection of major international art institutions.
Created by MMCA and presented in collaboration with prominent art museums, Watch and Chill offers global subscribers the opportunity to watch works from the participating institutions’ media collections and the artists of each community. Launched in 2021 during the pandemic, the first season was a collaboration between four Asian museums — including MCAD in Manila, MAIIAM in Chiang Mai, and M+ in Hong Kong — and Sharjah Art Foundation and ArkDes in Stockholm contributed to the second season.

For Watch and Chill 3.0, MMCA partners with TONO, a video and performance festival in Mexico City; the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts; and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Jihoi Lee, Samantha Ozer, Trevor Smith, and Timothy Moore are the curators.
Entitled Streaming Suspense, this season explores ways in which methods of storytelling and imaging conjure immersion through the strategies of tension. With sub-themes like “Landscape under Moonlight,” “Assembly of Evidence,” “Mutable Corpus,” “Performance of the Undead,” and “Post-dystopian Worldbuilding,” both the online platform and the offline exhibition at MMCA in Seoul present works that experiment with the psyche of the uncanny, abnormality, shape-shifting, and related implications today.
Participating artists, designers, and filmmakers from Korea, the Americas, and Oceania include Meriem Bennani, Club Ate (Justin Shoulder, Bhenji Ra, and collaborators), Fyerool Darma, Jang Minseung, siren eun young jung, Kwon Hayoun, and many more.
Watch and Chill 3.0: Streaming Suspense is online through April 2024. The offline exhibition takes place through July 23, on view at Gallery 5 at MMCA Seoul.
