Gone are the days of the old crystal chandelier. They’ve gotten a bit… tacky. But there will always be a need for light fixtures, and although it’s not his only passion, artist Olifur Eliasson has made quite a few.
I’m not even sure you can label these as chandeliers. The Icelandic artist creates something more akin to household kaleidoscopes, using a menagerie of colors, glass, and shapes to cast intricate patterns throughout a room. And some of these things are larger than life, being housed in museums, opera houses and private collections. An artist of multiple talents, Eliasson also does photography, sculpture, and uses mediums that span the distance of a very large spectrum. So if you want one, save up. An Eliasson light shade just might set you back a few.
