“Claire De Lune” by Audrey Kawasaki
Motherhood has been a popular artistic theme since the early ages, with some of the most famous paintings and sculptures being depictions of The Madonna and Child. Today, many artists continue to explore deeply personal maternal relationships, visualizing their unique, unconditional bond and fierce protection. Open now until June 9, 2019, in both its London and Rome locations, Dorothy Circus Gallery is hosting a group show, titled Mother and Child.

The exhibition will showcase the works of more than 30 contemporary international artists, all of which reveal their own unique take on motherhood. From Yosuke Ueno’s portrait of a futuristic, Japanese goddess to Andrea Kowch’s beautifully surreal depiction of a family matriarch, each piece evokes powerful emotions and memories of both motherhood and childhood.
A second theme that’s strong throughout the collection is human connection with nature. Camilla d’Errico’s painting, titled Gaia, celebrates Mother Nature—“the first true mother of earth.” She explains, “Gaia creates all life on earth, she protects and nurtures us with her body. She gives us a moment on this earth that begins and ends but is filled with beauty and possibilities. So I would like to honor the Mother of our Earth with this portrait of her.”
