Kenji Shibata is a photographer working in a unique medium – flowers frozen in ice. The ice literally preserves the lives of flowers, while the slow thawing creates the perfect opportunity for the photographer to capture these breathtaking images. He captures the entire process, from the time the flowers are frozen solid until their eventual death.
The results are photos that look much like watercolors, particularly in the subjects’ completely frozen state. The series is titled ‘Locked in the Ether’ and was recently on exhibit at Osaka’s Tachibana Gallery.
