Suspended pine tree in the coldest place in Japan looks like a huge figure when covered in snow

We have featured Azuma Makoto countless times because of his highly interesting, truly unique botanical art and now, another one of his works has furthered our love for his creation.

Trees of all kinds are one of the main components of Azuma Makoto’s art installations. Most of these installations are built in unassuming, completely unexpected places which are what makes his art stand out among the rest. For his latest botanical art project, he built a suspended pine tree anchored on an open steel frame structure in the middle of Japan’s coldest place.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The Shiki Tou is purposely placed in Hokkaido Island, a region of Kawasaki just north of Japan. The pine tree’s roots are visible in the naked eye and are supported by intricately made rope cords and wires. As the snow continues to fall in this part of Japan, the pine tree continues to be concealed, somehow appearing from a distance as an enormous floating figure.

If you are one to brave the cold, this art installation is definitely one you should not miss.
