Within a white gallery space, wall-mounted and projection art creates a futuristic sensation, transporting the viewer of this multimedia show into near-reality where technology mimics the appearance of nature. A group show at t-space in Milan examines the breakdown between human connection and technology. The six-person show called Non Standard weaves fluid images of vibrant scenescapes composed of digital collage alongside moody lighting.
The curator of Non Standard Mattia Giussani spoke to Creators about ideas behind the group show. The exhibit concentrates on “reflecting and researching themes such as human senses, the meaning of the self and social nowadays where this is dictated by the 21st century networked capitalistic structures, and how the natural matter is transformed in order to produce the consumer goods we use everyday.”

Non Standard is a sumptuous example of visual art. A stationary piece, entitled Is like the ocean? by Lea Collet and Mario Stamatis craters out the center of a gallery room with decisive drama, down to a tiny stream of dripping water. The room is covered in textural patterns which bring to mind an earth opening up underneath human feet.
Giussani says that the show was named Non Standard in order to “highlight these relationships between human, nature, and technology are far from being the norm or some fixed parameters and expectations. As long as there are technological discoveries and socio-political inequalities, this will have an effect on nature’s use and misuse by humans.”
