Artist Lamia Joreige researched the sieges, relics, occupations, and natural disasters of Beirut from 1200 BCE through 2010 CE to create Beirut, Autopsy of a City (2010). The work – a timeline that documents Beruit’s past and speculates on its future – reflects both the city’s violent and turbulent history and the sweetness that Joreige finds in her daily life there.
