We’re pleased to announce this year’s open call for Hyperallergic’s Journalism Fellowship for Curators, supported by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. Each year, this fellowship provides five curators with $5,000 to support their research and writing, aimed at demystifying curatorial work for a broader readership and developing their journalistic skills.
Fellows will work with our editorial team to develop and expand their research in order to contribute two articles to Hyperallergic, participate in a recorded online event, and produce an online exhibition that is accessible to a wide audience. We encourage curators to take an experimental approach in designing their exhibitions, which we’ll share with Hyperallergic‘s large online audience.

We hope to accept a wide range of fellows, and unlike previous years, we will host all five fellows from November until January and all events will take place in February or March. We encourage those who can work independently and have a clear vision for their project to apply.
Both established and emerging curators at least two years out of college are welcome to apply. We ask that you be upfront about your limitations, what you plan to exhibit, and how the fellowship’s focus on sharing your project with a public audience will help you realize your goals. Proposals with concrete plans for future exhibition will be given priority. Whether a well-known museum or grassroots art space, all exhibition venues will be considered equally. We also encourage curators to include multiple artists as part of their project rather than focusing on just one.
