The Griffin Warrior: Researchers unearth Greek figure’s tomb with treasures

Researchers from the University of Cincinnati discovered a 3,500-year-old tomb in the Southwest Greece.

This happened two years ago and now we’re being given a glimpse into the artifacts that were unearthed. According to researchers, the tomb belonged to the “Griffin Warrior” – a Bronze Age warrior. The tomb also consisted of four gold signet rings among many other things.

More than a year later, a sealstone was discovered inside the structure, measuring about an inch and a half wide. “What is fascinating is that the representation of the human body is at a level of detail and musculature that one doesn’t find again until the classical period of Greek art 1,000 years later,” said Jack Davis, Carl W. Blegen professor of Greek archaeology at the University of Cincinnati in UC Magazine.
