Except it’s not an old proverb at all. It’s an advertising slogan from Morton Salt. Their advertising agency originated the saying, which has nothing to do with coincidence, but everything to do with humidity.

Morton salt was innovative in other ways. The distinctive cylindrical box with a spout on top is the way every brand of salt is packaged now, but it was so unique when it launched in 1911 that they patented the metal pouring spout.
