Recently, biologist Eleanor Lutz’s new map shows the precise orbital patterns of more than 18,000 celestial objects.

Lutz, a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington, spends her evenings turning public data sets into a work of art.

She is now working on a new project called the Atlas of Space where she used a decade’s worth of data compilations from NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey, and other science organizations to create accurate maps of the solar system.
