Influenced by the contoured shape of a hammock and sunlight making its way through palm tree fronds, Pavilion’s Palmera hits the scene. The outdoor furniture collection was designed by Stark Scott Studio, the team of Kevin Stark, Lauren Stark, and Phillip Scott. “The unique sense of place created by a hammock – the suspended, kinetic feeling it encourages in its occupant – was our design inspiration,” said Phillip. The collection includes dining, lounge, and rocking chairs, and complementary dining and occasional tables.

“We studied the ancient Caribbean craft of making hammocks,” added Lauren. “The intricate, yet simple construction is akin to how Palmera chairs are made – with 28 contoured rods laid by hand into fixtures, then bonded by 148 resistance welds – marrying handcraft with modern manufacturing processes.”
Palmera, which is Spanish for palm tree, creates a place to escape the ordinary. Wireframe seating almost appears to float, suspended from its frame, creating a visual lightness. The legs of both the seating and tables are reminiscent of tapered palm fronds, and add cohesion to the collection as a whole. Together, the pieces are scaled to feel roomy yet efficient – important because Palmera can be used in residential, contract, and hospitality applications.
Pavilion is headquartered in Miami, Florida, and they know a thing or two about designing for demanding environments. You can count on Palmera to perform in high wind, rooftop, and balcony settings.
