The photographer who co-art directed Solange’s artistically stimulating album A Seat at the Table

Femininity has always been the center of Carlota Guerrero’s pieces that is why when commissioned to work on Solange’s highly acclaimed album A Seat at the Table, the artistic connection between the singer and the photographer was instantly evident.

Guerrero chose film photography as her tool, mostly shooting women, clothed and unclothed, in perplexing, empowering scenes. She was silently honing her photographic eye in her Spanish native of Barcelona when she was discovered by Beyonce’s sister herself and reached by the singer’s manager through her Instagram. The artistic collaboration between the two artists started on a dance choreography for a performance piece at the Tate Modern.

Guerrero proved to be a creative genius and landed the job of the co-art director to Solange’s music video Cranes In The Sky, and later on, Don’t Touch My Hair. Solange and Guerrero both had very strong visions for the album which they were able to merge beautifully. The latter was eventually tasked to do the album artwork and 112-page digital book, both celebrating the power of art and black culture.
