Stefan Lie’s Ribs Bench can now enjoy the great outdoors! First designed in 1998 and moulded from plywood, Ribs has found a home in many environments and now here’s yet another – from homes to the Sydney Opera House and now to your patio. The original design, which features a sculptural flexible metal spine, is now available in powder coated aluminum and known as the Ribs Bench Outdoor. This piece of furniture can withstand the weather outside, yet remain easily moveable. There’s also a fixed spine version available for public areas that might experience higher traffic.

I have fond memories of designing Ribs. Getting the geometry right while at the same time making sure it retains its organic appearance was challenging but fun. In 2003, to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of Ribs, I made a limited-edition version in polished aluminum. But it was difficult to make and I only produced two. So, I’m really happy to see it in aluminum once more.
The Ribs Bench Outdoor is powder coated in textured light grey, white, black or navy. Custom powder coat colors are available upon specification.
