The Roundish Chair Blurs the Line Between Home and Work

As the intersection of home and work grows increasingly tighter, designers are being called to respond to a new way of living. At Salone del Mobile, Japanese furniture manufacturer Maruni and designer Naoto Fukasawa presented a new chair concept – The Roundish Chair – focused on the limitless possibilities of space and furniture.

Fukasawa commented, “The uses and applications of spaces are no longer strictly defined. There are also no more divisions between different categories of furniture, like between office and dining room chairs or between different types of sofas. This is because our modern era requires high-quality spaces and furniture that fits into our various lifestyles. We have created a booth that responds perfectly to the needs and trends of this modern era.”

The Roundish armchair is characterized by the backrest, armrests, and seat all being one unified shape created from a single piece of laminated plywood that’s been twisted and bent. The three-dimensional chair is meant to give the user a feeling of comfort, as if they’ve been cocooned.
