Ellen Jewett crafts elaborately intricate sculptures of animals embellished with a variety of ornaments.
The artist uses a mixture of cold porcelain and polymer settled onto metal wire armatures, fashioning each piece by hand. Jewett admits to leaving clues behind the tiniest of details that speak to observant admirers of a greater story.
Jewett describes the project as “anthrozoology meets psychoanalysis.” She writes in her artist statement, “Even the narratives themselves harbor a degree of anarchy as they are rarely formally structured. Rather, I seek to achieve flow states while working to create a fluid progression of unconscious imagery.”
