Jay Ward, the genius behind Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose, went on to other things after moose-and-squirrel had run their course. Among other cartoon series, he produced The Dudley Do-Right Show, George of the Jungle, Super Chicken, and Hoppity Hooper.

The latter is one of the best – and the most unusual – cartoon series that has ever appeared on television; a scoundrelly con man of a fox voiced by the wonderful Hans Conried, a simple bugle-playing bear voiced by co-producer Bill Scott (also the voice of Bullwinkle), and a naive but energetic frog, all of whom carom from adventure to adventure. Still following the same formula that worked so well for moose-and-squirrel, Hoppity Hooper was ofttimes wonderful satire, and no better example exists than The Traffic Zone episode.
A keen parody of the then-popular Twilight Zone television series, Ward and co. took no prisoners in this 20-minute exercise in satire. Sadly, Hoppity Hooper lasted but 17 episodes, all of which are today available on YouTube. Watch this one and see what your grandparents thought was funny.
