The Worst Website Ever Made (on Purpose)

My insurance provider sent an email telling me to read something, and then detailed a five-step process for getting to the thing they wanted me to read. Since it was news and not personal information, they could have just send the document itself, or included a direct link to that page. That’s an example of bad UI, or “user interface,” but there are plenty of other ways websites make things unnecessarily difficult for their users. Now design firm Bagaar has plopped all the most common UI sins into one website, called User Inyerface. It’s a game of sorts, one that pits your patience against your frustration. Yes, you need to create an account and log in, but that in itself is part of the game. I only lasted two minutes before I was ready to pull my hair out (I went back later and persisted long enough to get this screenshot). If you manage to go longer, you’ll get an education in everything you should not do in building a website. If you want to read about the game before you try it, Ars Technica has the background and warnings you will need. -via Metafilter
