These interesting wooden textiles live “between hard and soft”

“Between hard and soft” is how German artist Elisa Strozyk describes her wooden textile project. Using small, thin wooden pieces, Strozyk connects triangular elements using a textile infrastructure. Though it is not seen, the textile portion is essential to a joinery that permits movement.

Combining small repetitive shapes, these pieces reference both quilting and mosaics. The artist explains, “Depending on the geometry and size of the tiles each design shows a different behavior regarding flexibility and mobility.”
