These massive ‘paintings’ are stunning. What they are made of seems impossible!

British artist Jason Martin is best known for his monochromatic works that blur the lines of sculpture and painting. By applying layers of oil or acrylic gel on surfaces such as stainless steel, plexiglass, or aluminum, he’s able to create amazing comb-like textures in one brushstroke movement. Recently, the London-based artist got rid of paint altogether to start experimenting with metallic materials like copper, bronze and nickel.

The results are strikingly rhythmic textures that can provoke images of either ridges in a vinyl record, strands of wet hair or a melted robot – depending on how wild your imagination can be. Take a look at his vivid paintings below. What do you see?
