Tokyo-based artist Koshi Kawachi has found an interesting new use for old magazines, books and comics. Instead of being recycled, the books become a growing medium for radish spouts. Kawachi’s environmentally friendly technique is dubbed ‘Manga Farming’, and is the subject of his installation at the Matsuzakaya department store in Nagoya.
Books that might otherwise be thrown away get repurposed as they breathe new life into plants. The idea works on both a scientific and artistic level, and it’s very easy to recreate at home too. This sure is a “novel” way to grow decorative plants indoors without the need for pots!
