Meet the man dubbed “Animal Whisperer,” a photographer and adventurer who’s mastered the art of taking selfies with exotic animals. Originally from Ireland, Allan Dixon has been travelling around the globe to capture smiling snaps with kangaroos, quokkas, camels, sea lions… you name it!

Having started in 2015, he now has quite a solid collection of funny and light-hearted snaps that won the heart of the internet. But the purrfect selfie isn’t just all fun and games, and it could take “’anywhere between five minutes to three hours of being in the animal’s presence’ to take the perfect selfie,” Allan told us.

Seeing A Mammal In A Cage Isn’t Nice But I Feel Birds Have It Ten Times Worse. The Problem Starts In Two Ways. Birds Either Get Smuggled In The Wild And Sold As A Pet, Usually Packing On A Lot Of Stress. Or Are Born In Captivity Which Gives Them Zero Skills To Survive In The Wild Meaning They Would Actually Get Stressed If You Released Them. To Prevent All That The Best Thing You Can Do Is Not Buy A Bird. Second, Not Support Places That Cage Healthy Happy Birds (Rehabilitation Of Wild Birds To Re-Release Is Great!). For Those Birds Born In Captivity I Asked The Awesome Loving Bird Man Hordygurdy For Advice On Owning Pet Birds. “I Would Say That It Is Important To Have Them In A Big Cage As You Say, And Give Them Lots Of Things To Do To Keep Them Entertained. Foraging Toys, Give Them Their Food In A Different Way Every Day, So That They Have To Find It And Spend The Time On That As They Would Do In Nature. This Is Also Called Environmental Enrichment: Things To Stimulate Them. As These Are Loris [in The Picture Above], I Think It Would Be Very Important To Have Trees Inside The Cage And Many Branches If They Are Not Stimulated And They Don’t Have Things To Do, Or Other Parrots With Them, Then They Can Develop Behaviour Problems Like Feather Plucking, And So On.” I Hope This Post Helps People And Birds Alike.
