Luckily, there’s a subreddit that collects pictures of “illegally smol cats,” warning of the suspects that might pull such a trick on us.

The subreddit’s size almost doubled from the last time we wrote about it and currently stands at 628K members. The moderator team has also expanded to keep up with the steadily increasing amount of content. Depending on the feline(s) it features, every post on the subreddit falls into one of these categories: “Smolice Custody”, “Furrbidden Purrito”, “Smol Jumpy Kitty”, “Criminally Smol”, “Smol and Angy”, “Floofy Smol Kitty”, “Extra Extra Smol”, Smol Gang of Criminals”, Standard Issue Smol”, “Itty Bitty Smol Beans”, “Smol to Lorge”, and “WANTED FOR SMOL CRIMES.”

As we already mentioned, cats are adorable at any age, but figuring out how old a kitten is can help determine what sort of care they need. Sometimes it can be tricky to tell. However, Alley Cat Allies released a guide, which should help us to tell how old the cats in these pics are in no time, at least some time.

When kittens are first born, they are completely helpless—their eyes are closed, their ears are folded, and they can’t even stand, keep themselves warm, or eat on their own. At this stage, they rely on their mom completely. They fit in the palm of our hand and weigh 3-5 ounces. These babies spend about 90 percent of their time sleeping and the other 10 percent eating.

One week into this world, they are becoming more aware of their surroundings, and their eyes are almost completely open, though their eyesight is still unfocused. They have doubled their birth weight to around eight ounces, and at about seven days old, a kitten’s ears will unfold as well.

During their second week, kittens continue to grow fast. After 14 days, their ears are almost completely uncurled and they begin to crawl around, although they still depend completely on their caregiver for food and waste elimination.

By the third week, you can tell if the kittens are boys or girls. Their sharp teeth are coming in and they become more confident in walking around. Now is the time to provide them with a litter box and wet food.

Four-week kittens are sturdy on their feet and like playing with each other, toys, and people. They start to look like fluffy, mini versions of their mother and are showing interest in the outside world. They are ready to begin socializing!

At this point, it’s still a while before kittens are ready for their loving homes, but with each day, their sentence for being “smol” gets shorter and shorter.
