“Nude Drawing 4/14/2000” belongs to a group of “canvas drawings” of Wesselmann’s later period, which emphasized the drawn line in depicting their subject. In this work, the female figure—whose bright yellow hair suggests unequivocally that the model is the artist’s beloved wife Claire—reclines in a roughly painted interior set against a glimpse of turquoise water and sky.
