TON’s Grand Slam Chair Collection Takes the Prize

We may not have tennis this spring, but we do have TON’s Grand Slam collection. Designed by Alex Gufler, the included pieces are a beautiful display of wood bending and other techniques. In his designs Gufler has thoughtfully paired TON’s trademark bent wooden rods with a gently curved plywood seat – all with no visible joins.

The tennis reference in the name is a nod to TON’s factory that was previously used to make tennis rackets. “Grand Slam” pays homage to a wood working technique that they’ve used for nearly 160 years.

“The collection’s generous curved form, seen usually in metal furniture, presents a technical challenge when made in wood. Responding to such a challenge requires significant mastery of craft to ensure that the product meets strength and durability requirements,” says Gufler.

He also paid attention to the chair’s functionality, making it stackable to save on space. Upholstery options add a customizable option to their design, available in a smooth finish, with an upholstered seat or an upholstered seat and backrest. The barstool comes in two height variations as well.
