Tracing: Exploring the memories captured in antique Bas-Reliefs

Caroline Slotte‘s artworks involve exploring the memory and physical reduction of objects in the form of Bas-Relief sculptures.

The Helsinki-based artist, for her 2015 series, Tracing, reimagined several ceramic plates using processes such as masking and sandblasting to convert painted 2D images into 3D bas-relief sculptures.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

She explained in an interview with the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, “I used a process of repeated masking and sandblasting to remove the glaze and the printed imagery step-by-step. When sandblasting the sand eats away on everything hard.”
