In the sculpture “Angel”, created by Beijing artists Aun Yuan and Peng Yu, a fallen angel is depicted more realistically than you could imagine. The angel appears to be an elderly woman with wings missing their feathers. The sculpture is gut-wrenchingly realistic, and is comprised of silica gel, fiberglass, woven mess and stainless steel.
Their statement says they aim to highlight tension and transition between supernatural and mundane, which seems incredibly fitting for this piece. Some of their past installations have used real human fat tissue and cadavers. While this one is a little more tame, it’s still equally as interesting and creepy.
