Artists, humanists, scientists, roboticists, programmers, designers, and innovators at the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (ATEC) at UT Dallas think critically and creatively about the entanglement of technology and culture. We study history to understand context and human becoming; we engage the present to participate in conversation, address problems, and pursue opportunities; we create the future in our imagination, our scholarship, our art, our research, our practice, and our technologies.

The ATEC MFA pathways in Animation and Creative Practice seek artists open to collaboration, experimenters who aren’t afraid to fail, creative opportunists, critical researchers, project developers, and boundary transgressors. ATEC is home to artists with a desire to deepen their connection to the areas of animation, creative practice, design, and experimental game development.

The ATEC MA pathway in Emerging Media Studies is appropriate for candidates who want to advance their undergraduate education through further study of technology and media or take an initial step toward a PhD in related fields. Students learn about foundational theories and methodologies that underpin technology and media studies, as well as contemporary debates in the fields.

Join us and think with technology to transform what is known into what is possible.

In response to the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, UT Dallas is extending its Fall 2020 admissions deadlines for MA and MFA programs to July 1, 2020.
