Watch Indigenous Cinema With the National Museum of the American Indian

The National Museum of the American Indian’s Native Cinema Showcase is an annual celebration of the best in Native film. Featuring eight days of online screenings, including the award-winning dramatic feature Bootlegger, the showcase provides a unique forum for engagement with Native filmmakers from Indigenous communities throughout the Western Hemisphere and Arctic. All screenings are free; the full schedule is available on the showcase website. Bootlegger and Imagining the Indian require registration in advance.

By embracing oral histories, knowledge, and ancestral lands, Indigenous peoples are creating films to better understand the past and imagine a new way of thinking for the future. The online program includes a total of 36 films (six features and 30 shorts) representing 30 Native nations in eight different countries: the US, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Colombia, and Sweden. There are 10 Indigenous languages spoken in the films.
