Design Milk is thrilled to share the first lecture of the 2023/2024 academic year of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies Design Conversations Lecture Series featuring Patricia Moore of MooreDesign Associates. In this Design Conversation, distinguished industrial designer and gerontologist Patricia Moore talks about education at RIT and her career, including her early years as a designer working with Raymond Loewy and being the only female designer in the design studio. She discusses her work in universal design, focusing on designing for the elderly and people with disabilities.

Patricia emphasizes the role of design in improving quality of life and addressing societal issues such as inequality and sustainability. She also details her collaboration with Julia Childs on a design for the future kitchen, as well as her collaboration with Sam Farber on OXO Good Grips, which gave kitchen utensils the ability to be more comfortable, usable, inclusive, and universal by design. Patricia went on to share her involvement with the Phoenix Light Rail project, which she saw as an opportunity to be a great equalizer for people with disabilities. To learn more about The Vignelli Center for Design Studies at RIT, they have launched digital access to the archives through Google Arts & Culture, joining over 2000 cultural institutions from around the world. The initial launch includes nearly 900 high resolution images of artifacts from the archives so that now anyone with access to the Internet and Google Arts & Culture can search the Vignelli archives or browse it by color or chronological order.
