Wes Anderson’s The Shining: an unlikely mashup

The London-based film director Steve Ramsden has created a video mashup of two of our favorite movies about hotels — Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). The title of their illicit love child is The Grand Overlook Hotel.

Ramsden composed the short film seamlessly, showing us the visual similarity in vastly different films. Intermingling clips from both films, the mashup creates a singular plot-line. Although the two movies would not be initially seen as siblings, the connection is clear after seeing the two isolated hotel settings, each with richly developed character plots.
