Photographer Daniel Stoupin captured the brilliant colors and captivating movements of underwater coral and sponges. Often thought to be stationary because their movements are so slow, Stoupin explains that a time-lapse is necessary to reveal the day-to-day lives of these mysterious marine creatures.
The three and a half minute video is composed of 150,000 photographs. “Macro photography involves shallow depth of field,” said Stoupin. “To extend it, I used focus stacking. Each frame of the video is actually a stack that consists of 3-12 shots where in-focus areas are merged.”
