Tis the season for holiday themed activist installation art! If you took the L train in or out of New York City’s Bedford Avenue subway station yesterday you probably caught a glimpse of this guy in a full-body metallic holiday-paper wrap. The ‘guy’ was not actually a living person at all, but a life-sized cast of artist Julian Cole.
Although a strange sight like the “wrapping paper man” is not completely unusual for the big city, if you did get curious enough to read the attached card everything begins to make sense. This public guerrilla art installation politely asks the MTA system to add more trains to the Brooklyn stop as “60,000 (other) presents have moved to the borough in the last 2 years.” Check out the full hilarious holiday card below.
