Content creator Allison Delperdang turned to TikTok to ask a question that just wouldn’t leave her alone: how often are adults washing their pajamas?
And judging from the attention her video has received, it’s a more relevant topic than it might sound at first. In just a few weeks it has already racked up over 1.5 million views and has received nearly 7,000 comments.

The ongoing debate on this automatic part of people’s everyday routine serves as a reminder that the word ‘normal’ can mean different things to different people, so we thought it would be interesting to explore it!

The woman asked TikTok users how many times they wear their pajamas before washing them
“I need to know if people wear pajamas multiple nights in a row. When I was younger, my parents always made us wear pajamas more than like, multiple nights in a row because they weren’t dirty. And I still do that as an adult. I’ve worn these three nights in a row.”

“So I need to know if as adults we’re still doing that or should I be literally making dirty clothes every single night? Are we wearing pajamas multiple nights or what’s the situation?”

For the record, “pajamas” usually mean any kind of clothes that you sleep in regularly, from T-shirts and boxer shorts to old-fashioned slumberwear.
A survey of nearly 2,500 people ages 18 to 30 by British mattress company Ergoflex found that the average time men wear pajamas without washing them is 13 nights, and for women, it’s 17 nights.
And regardless of how you would answer, there are plenty of people who think you’re doing it wrong

Interestingly, the TODAY anchors have also analyzed this topic.
“I wash them like I would wash a T-shirt that I wash every day,” Carson Daly said. “I wash them pretty often.”
“I wear a T-shirt and I wash it every day,” Hoda Kotb added.
Al Roker is a T-shirt and boxers man, and he swaps those out for fresh ones daily.

They also asked their viewers the same question, and the majority (45.7%) of the 2,783 who answered said they wash their pajamas once a week, a quarter (25.8%) said they do it twice a week, and one-in-five (19.5%) said they wash theirs daily. One in ten (9%) probably still live with their parents, as they selected the “I’m supposed to wash them?” option.

To settle the issue, TODAY phoned housekeeping authority Martha Stewart to learn what’s her opinion on the matter.
“I absolutely suggest you wash your pajamas, your nightgowns, your underwear, whatever you sleep in, every day,” she said.
Or, if you want my not-so-expert advice, just sniff it!

“We’re gonna get into bedsheets another time, but I was wondering about towels in people’s comments. So, same thing. When I was younger, my parents always had us reuse towels because when we used them out of the shower, we were clean. So they never had us put our towel in the dirty clothes after using it one time. So now I’m curious if that’s a standard thing or what everyone does?”
