Wooden frames fused with reclaimed tree roots by Darryl Cox

“Fusion Frames” are sculptural hybrids by Darryl Cox that trace borders of wooden frames into sprouting tree limbs.

The Oregon-based artist begins each piece by searching for the most suitable frame to match reclaimed roots of manzanita, juniper, and aspen trees, sometimes even grapevines. The process of making each piece is laborious, to say the least, and requires extensive woodworking and painting to precisely fuse frames and tree roots. The time-consuming process allows Cox to be able to produce only around 25 pieces each year. Check out some of his frames below and find more of his recent work on Facebook.
