This is not an optical illusion or an art installation. Designed by Dutch designer Annebet Philips for Italian design brand Seletti, CUT ’N PASTE is a family of objects – a candelabra, lamps, clock, mirror, frames, and shelves – that are made entirely of recycled cardboard and tape. Not only do these pieces work, they are also available for purchase in a limited edition run.

While cardboard and tape are normally just used for the prototyping stage of a design process, Philips learned that they actually work well as a finished product. She explains, “Thanks to the cardboard, the products are light and the lamps are easy to hang or place, while the contrasting tape gives them a strong, graphic look. An epoxy layer gives the items extra strength and durability.”
The collection is creative, playful, and unconventional. It also is a testament of how designers and brands can address the issue of sustainability in design.
