A new and unique art movement created by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has everyone tapping and looking over their phones – and it’s all for a good cause.

Send Me SFMOMA” is a project aimed to create a sense of appreciation for art in even the most insipid of people. People can text the number 57251 for free with the phrase “send me” followed by a word or emoji and the museum replies with a related picture of one of their archived artworks. The whole experiment has been a success and the museum has since received over two million text messages. The requests varied from happiness and positivity to sadness and grief.

Building a communicative relationship with the audience is exactly the goal of SFMOMA. The museum wanted to make all of its 34,000 art pieces to be open to the public in any way or platform and the ongoing project is already using 17,000 of what are already indexed on the museum’s website.
